  1. And they desired a war against him, but We brought them low.

  2. And the chief persons of them break forth, saying: Go and steadily adhere to your gods; this is most surely a thing sought after.

  3. If Allah desire to take a son to Himself, He will surely choose those He pleases from what He has created. Glory be to Him: He is Allah, the One, the Subduer (of all).

  4. And should you ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? They would most certainly say: Allah. Say: Have you then considered that what you call upon besides Allah, would they, if Allah desire to afflict me with harm, be the removers of His harm, or (would they), if Allah desire to show me mercy, be the withholders of His mercy? Say: Allah is sufficient for me; on Him do the reliant rely.

  5. The like of what befell the people of Nuh and Ad and Samood and those after them, and Allah does not desire injustice for (His) servants;

  6. Whoever desires the gain of the hereafter, We will give him more of that gain; and whoever desires the gain of this world, We give him of it, and in the hereafter he has no portion.

  7. Those of the dwellers of the desert who were left behind will say to you: Our property and our families kept us busy, so ask forgiveness for us. They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say: Then who can control anything for you from Allah if He intends to do you harm or if He intends to do you good; nay, Allah is Aware of what you do:

  8. Those who are left behind will say when you set forth for the gaining of acquisitions: Allow us (that) we may follow you. They desire to change the world of Allah. Say: By no means shall you follow us; thus did Allah say before. But they will say: Nay! you are jealous of us. Nay! they do not understand but a little.

  9. I do not desire from them any sustenance and I do not desire that they should feed Me.

  10. Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones in war.

  11. Therefore turn aside from him who turns his back upon Our reminder and does not desire anything but this world's life.

  12. And certainly they endeavored to turn him from his guests, but We blinded their eyes; so taste My chastisement and My warning.

  13. They desire to put out the light of Allah with their mouths but Allah will perfect His light, though the unbelievers may be averse.

  14. And that we know not whether evil is meant for those who are on earth or whether their Lord means to bring them good:

  15. And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals.

  16. Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out;

  17. Nay! man desires to give the lie to what is before him.

  18. We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks:

  19. The great doer of what He will.
