Appears 29 times in the Quran.

  1. If good befalls you, it grieves them, and if an evil afflicts you, they rejoice at it; and if you are patient and guard yourselves, their scheme will not injure you in any way; surely Allah comprehends what they do.

  2. Those who believe fight in the way of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the way of the Shaitan. Fight therefore against the friends of the Shaitan; surely the strategy of the Shaitan is weak.

  3. And I grant them respite; surely My scheme is effective.

  4. Have they feet with which they walk, or have they hands with which they hold, or have they eyes with which they see, or have they ears with which they hear? Say: Call your associates, then make a struggle (to prevail) against me and give me no respite.

  5. This, and that Allah is the weakener of the struggle of the unbelievers.

  6. Besides Him, therefore scheme against me all together; then give me no respite:

  7. He said: O my son! do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they devise a plan against you; surely the Shaitan is an open enemy to man.

  8. So when he saw his shirt rent from behind, he said: Surely it is a guile of you women; surely your guile is great:

  9. He said: My Lord! the prison house is dearer to me than that to which they invite me; and if Thou turn not away their device from me, I will yearn towards them and become (one) of the ignorant.

  10. Thereupon his Lord accepted his prayer and turned away their guile from him; surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

  11. And the king said: Bring him to me. So when the messenger came to him, he said: Go back to your lord and ask him, what is the case of the women who cut their hands; surely my Lord knows their guile.

  12. This is that he might know that I have not been unfaithful to him in secret and that Allah does not guide the device of the unfaithful.

  13. So he began with their sacks before the sack of his brother, then he brought it out from his brother's sack. Thus did We plan for the sake of Yusuf; it was not (lawful) that he should take his brother under the king's law unless Allah pleased; We raise the degrees of whomsoever We please, and above every one possessed of knowledge is the All-knowing one.

  14. So Firon turned his back and settled his plan, then came.

  15. Therefore settle your plan, then come standing in ranks and he will prosper indeed this day who overcomes.

  16. And cast down what is in your right hand; it shall devour what they have wrought; they have wrought only the plan of a magician, and the magician shall not be successful wheresoever he may come from.

  17. And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back.

  18. And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers.

  19. Whoever thinks that Allah will not assist him in this life and the hereafter, let him stretch a rope to the ceiling, then let him cut (it) off, then let him see if his struggle will take away that at which he is enraged.

  20. And they desired a war against him, but We brought them low.

  21. So when he brought to them the truth from Us, they said: Slay the sons of those who believe with him and keep their women alive; and the struggle of the unbelievers will only come to a state of perdition.

  22. The means of access to the heavens, then reach the god of Musa, and I surely think him to be a liar. And thus the evil of his deed was made fairseeming to Firon, and he was turned away from the way; and the struggle of Firon was not (to end) in aught but destruction.

  23. Or do they desire a war? But those who disbelieve shall be the vanquished ones in war.

  24. The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped.

  25. And I do bear with them, surely My plan is firm.

  26. So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now).

  27. Surely they will make a scheme,

  28. And I (too) will make a scheme.

  29. Did He not cause their war to end in confusion,
